Lithosphere
The lithosphere is the rigid outermost shell of a rocky planet. On earth, it is the potion of the crust and the upper mantle. The lithosphere is broken into tectonic plates. There are 2 types of lithosphere-
* Oceanic lithosphere- it is associated with oceanic crust
* Continental lithosphere- it is located in the continental crust.
* Oceanic lithosphere- it is associated with oceanic crust
* Continental lithosphere- it is located in the continental crust.
Asthenosphere
The asthenosphere is the weak region of the upper mantle. It lies below the lithosphere, at depths between 100 and 200 km below the surface, but perhaps extending as deep as 700 km . The asthenosphere is a portion of the upper mantle just below the lithosphere, that is involved in plate tectonic movements.
